Shirley Layne was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where most of her family still resides. She has a diverse work history with 15 years of business management and 13 years of consulting to executives and boards of directors primarily in not-for-profit businesses. She started selling real estate in Kansas City in 2001 before moving to Big Timber, Montana in 2004, and is the licensed real estate broker/owner of Montana Broker Properties, LLC, in Montana.
Shirley is a former member of Reece & Nichols Real Estate in Kansas City. She is a current member of the Northern Plains Resource Council, Cottonwood Resource Council, Chair of Sweet Grass Food, Chair of Sweet Grass Arts Alliance, Board Member of the Sweet Grass County Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the board of the Sweet Grass Health & Wellness Foundation (now the Sweet Grass Community Foundation), and member of Friends of Dornix Park. She facilitated a Smart Growth Task Force in Sweet Grass County. Shirley has a Master's degree in Organization Behavior.
The Montana Broker Properties office has recently moved to 133 McLeod next to The Grand Hotel on the main street of downtown Big Timber.
Shirley has four grown children, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Shirley has been an active member of the Sweet Grass County and town of Big Timber community for twenty years. She lives in a small remodeled barn on the Yellowstone River. Her interests include gardening, horseback riding, and baking.
